Cry of the Poor
"How can it be that even today there are still people dying of hunger? Condemned to illiteracy? Lacking the most basic medical care? Without a roof over their heads? . . .

"Christians must learn to make their act of faith in Christ by discerning His voice in the cry for help that rises from this world of poverty."
-- Pope John Paul II

Take Back Our Country -- Proclaim the Kingdom of God!
Blog submitted by WilliamSB on Sun 22 Aug 2004 - 15:00 h
"The joys and the hopes, the griefs and the anxieties of the men of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these are the joys and hopes, the griefs and anxieties of the followers of Christ. Indeed, nothing genuinely human fails to raise an echo in their hearts." -- Gaudium et Spes

Our Catholic community is a community of great hope! We are heirs to the Kingdom of God, even while we live and work in the world. We are a Gospel people who proclaim Christ's message of life and of peace. We work to transform humanity in the Spirit of life and peace. For we say, with Christ,

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord." -- Luke 4:18.

In this same spirit, as Catholic Americans, we approach our participation in civic life with a solemn, two-fold duty: on the one hand, we work to promote liberty and defend the Constitution; on the other hand, we work to promote justice and the Kingdom of God. These duties do not conflict with each other. Rather, there is a necessary unity between these two duties; they support and uplift each other.

Yet there are some among us who would sell our Catholic voice to the highest bidder. Catholics who have, for years, been working bitterly to divide our Church community over doctrine and liturgy, have now sold us out to the Enemy. Since 2002, the Administration of George W. Bush has been connecting the most divisive among us with wealthy corporate doners. George W. Bush has been quietly building up a network of pseudo-grassroots Catholic organizations to illicitly pass substantial campaign monies into his coffers and the coffers of radical Congressional candidates; and to control the Catholic voice so that it will proclaim the gospel of Bush rather than the Gospel of Christ. So they can shepherd themselves on Christ's sheep and control the destiny of a nation, those who have worked to divide our Church now participate in dividing America.

At no time in recent history has there been a greater need for the Catholic community to speak out for life, peace and justice. We are in an illicit war, people are starving on the streets, average Americans slave to make ends meet, the community of nations struggles hopelessly for unity. As a nation, we have abandoned the rule of law and our commitment to the life and dignity of the human person. If ever there was a time for the Catholic community to speak up, that time is now!

But our voice has been silenced by some in our own community. It has been silenced by those among us who opportunistically lap at the coffers of Bush's wealthy elite. It has been silenced by those who bitterly sow division among the community of believers and among the citizens of the nation in which we live. It has been silenced by those who self-righteously adhere to the letter of canonical law and the integrity of rubrics rather than to the Kingdom of God and the life of the Spirit.

A dark cloud hovers over our nation while we, as Catholic Americans, watch our holy religion betrayed and our Republic slipping from the grasps of the people. Through the sin of Pride, the Enemy has amassed a vast and organized Army against the people of God and against our democratic Republic. Through the virtue of Fortitude, the People of God must unite in solidarity with our brothers and sisters of freedom in this great nation.

Now is the time, brothers and sisters in Christ, to take our country back from Imperial Claimants! Now is the time to take our holy religion and our Catholic voice back from greedy Corporate Interests and Embittered Judases. Now is the time for the prophets among us to rise up and cry out for life, justice, peace, hope and the rule of law.

America and the world can know renewed hope and real peace. But it is up to us to proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom and the dignity of our American Constitution.

Take America Back in 2004 -- Proclaim the Kingdom of God!

serious accusations without proof

What documentation do you have about these allegations? What proof do you show that would support the items that you state? You are the one that states that you will not post anything negative that someone prints about John Kerry, but why doesn't that apply to you as well? After all there is proof that John Kerry was not truthful about Cambodia. He went on and on at least 20 times in speeches and his book about this story, and now he has had to retract it. Did he do this purposely? Is it negative to point it out? Is it a flip flop, or just an innocent error? Is he a liar? It is difficult to know for sure, so rather then call him a liar, wouldn't you prefer that we give him the benefit of the doubt? Why not do the same for President Bush? 50 Percent of Americans think you are wrong. He is human too. By posting this unsubstantiated stuff, you are really showing that you just have a dislike and distrust for President Bush, and being a logical and intelligent person, I am sure you don't want your feelings to get in the way of your logic.

Theodore Roosevelt

"To announce that there should be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American people."
