Cry of the Poor |
"How can it be that even today there are still people dying of hunger? Condemned to illiteracy? Lacking the most basic medical care? Without a roof over their heads? . . .
"Christians must learn to make their act of faith in Christ by discerning His voice in the cry for help that rises from this world of poverty."
-- Pope John Paul II

Speaking of Catholics for Bush... |

While we're on the topic of Catholics for Bush, have you seen they're latest complaint about the U.S.C.C.B.? They link to a Catholic(?) Kerry Watch reproduction of an article posted in cybercatholics.com about the recent questionaire presented by the USCCB to the two major Presidential candidates. It's amazing how these things fly around the internet, isn't it?
It seems that politically-conservative Catholics cannot make up their minds about whether they like or dislike the USCCB. They like the USCCB when USCCB seems to make statements they favor. When the USCCB makes statements that seem more to weaken their ideological position, though, USCCB seems to fall just short of anti-Christ status.
To be fair, the USCCB has been sending out mixed signals this year. But what do you expect? The bishops don't all agree among each other any more than the lay faithful agree among each other. But, hey, if we all agreed all the time, there would be no need for fraternal dialogue to sort out those issues -- like the Presidential election and its potential consequences and rewards -- which are very important to us.
We may be One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic. But we are still human... and so are our bishops.
