Cry of the Poor |
"How can it be that even today there are still people dying of hunger? Condemned to illiteracy? Lacking the most basic medical care? Without a roof over their heads? . . .
"Christians must learn to make their act of faith in Christ by discerning His voice in the cry for help that rises from this world of poverty."
-- Pope John Paul II

Consistent Ethic of Life Means... Consistent Ethic of Life |

Members of the Democratic National Committee and some media pundits have been praising the consistent ethic of life of pro-life Democrats lately. The unspoken, yet intended, message behind these praises is that voters who are pro-life can support John Kerry. And, in fact, should because a consistent ethic of life opposes many of this Administration's policies: e.g. uncompromising support for the death penalty, going to war for questionable motives, using weapons that overwhelm in terms of the disproportionate and indiscriminate cost to human life, and other assaults on life.

While I would agree with the substance behind this message, it is disengenuous and condescending coming from the mouths of those who do not, in fact, endorse our consistent ethic of life. It is impossible to honestly praise an ethic you, yourself, have not signed on to.

To quote a former President, "Read my lips..." a consistent ethic of life means just that, a consistent ethic of life. Just as we oppose many of Bush's policies assaulting human life and the dignity of the human person; so too do we oppose the unwavering support of many democrats for legalized abortions.
Be very careful what you ask for as you court our allegience. That allegience comes with a price!

Theodore Roosevelt |

"To announce that there should be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American people."
